Assignment #7- Blog

 

Health & PE blog 

 

 

 I like the idea of commnicating with my students using a blog.  I can list all my assignments and reminders, as well as helpful resources and other sites I feel would be helpful to the students.  Some challenges I can see include the unreliability of the students' checking the site.  Some students may not have access to computers outside the school, while others may not be responsible enough to check consistently.    If there was a way to ensure that the students check the blog I would definitely use this educational tool.  Otherwise, I probably wouldn't use a blog, but rather keep my school website updated.

  

 

Assignment #6-Chat Room

 

 

 

 

Option 3- The Athens Area School District has seven schools, and a total of 9 health and physical education teachers.  A chat room could be extremely useful in curriculum development, allowing teachers to discuss topics without physically coming together.  Potential drawbacks include scheduling chat times around busy schedules, internet content filterson the school servers, and technology glitches which seem to be never-ending. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Assignment #5-Inspiration

Inspiration could be useful in helping my students organize the information in my drug unit.  In the example I've attached, I have one fairly involved branch of my web diagram in which all pertinent information is added.  I also have a few less-involved branches, listing only examples of drugs in each category.   Students could use a class period to begin organizing the information in whatever depth would benefit them the most, and use out-of-class time to complete the task.

Assignment #3 - Virtual Tour

During my unit on the skeletal system students will spend one 40-minute class period in the computer lab using the above sites to practice identifying bones of the skeletal system.  The sites will also be posted on my school website that students can access for out-of-school practice.   After being introduced to the sites, students will be instructed to use the skeletal system link first, and may try links to other body systems if time permits.  Using these virtual sites students will reinforce the required knowledge and practice identifying the bones to prepare for their quiz.  In addition, these sites offer more information than is required of them so they may look deeper into the human anatomy as their interested is sparked, and learn more than is required of them.  

 

 

 

 

Assignment #2 -Power Point

 After starting the slide presentation, students will look at the picture and choose whether they think the picture is of drugs or candy.  If they choose incorrectly they will  go back to the picture and have the opportunity to choose the correct answer.  When the correct answer is chosen, the picture is identified and they can move on to the next picture.

 

 

Assignment #1 -Excel

This spreadsheet is a way to help students calculate exercise target heart rate ranges based on a subject's age and resting heart rate.  In using this assignment, students would be required to find subjects of varying ages, take their resting heart rates, and using the spreadsheet determine the corresponding heart rates and exercise heart rate ranges.
