Lesson plans
As a Title One reading teacher in an elementary building I would use these various technologies to enhance my language arts instruction.
1. With my third grade groups I would have the students use digital cameras to record their walking field trips to historical local places. Students would make presentations about each place sharing the historical information that was learned.
2. I would use Semantic network software with fourth grade students who are doing research reports. I would have students brainstorm different topics and then create outlines for their reports.
3. Also with the fourth grade research projects I would have students create power point presentations on their topics in order to share the information with their peers. Students could develop their own advanced power point "quizzes" to give to each other. This would enhance their own understanding of their topic as well as assessing the other students' understanding.
4. With all students I would utilize virtual technologies to enhance nonfiction reading instruction. Depending on the topic that students are reading about, whether it is medival castles or Mt. St Helens, students could take virtual tours of the places and topics that they are reading about. By doing this these far away places and topics would seem more real and familiar.
5. I would use excel spread sheets to track student progress. As a Title One Reading teacher I assess student's fluency and accuracy throughout the year. Using excel I could put the formula in the spread sheet that would compute words per minute using the accuacy and fluency figures for each student.
