The Process:

First we had to brain storm ideas, and come together on choosing one.  Then we created a story board of the scenes. We planned every step out including where to shoot, costumes to wear, and how to enter the screen.  We then put together a list of songs we wanted to use for the movie.  Then we cut the songs using Audacity to select the parts of the song we wanted.  We went to several locations to film our version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We started to film at the different locations.  We didn't shoot the scences in order. We made sure we had several takes of the same scence to use for editing.  Next we loaded the tape onto the computer using a firewire.  We then edited the film using Windows Movie Maker. We cut the different video into segments.  We placed them into the timeline in the correct order, and made them transition.  We added some brightening features and made sure they looked okay.  Next we inserted the music with the correct slides.  We faded the music, transitioned the music, and changed the volume to suit the movie.  We then exported the movie in different forms so it could be used for the web, a DVD, and in a PowerPoint.

Idea for editing in the camera:  I would use editing in the camera for different ideas in my classroom.

The children would need to think each step out in the following process:

  • Introductions of students
  • Show steps of a science experiment
  • Role play rules and then revisit the tape later in the year when needed
  • Show steps of division or other math concepts

Idea for editing on the computer:

I do a lot of reader's theater.  Putting this on tape would bring a new twist to this.  The students would not need to do the theater in order, and they could use differnt scences and then edit them together to make a production.  I will also use this process to put together graduation videos for the students to take with them to have as a memento for 5th grade.
