Pod Cast

My team has decided to do a podcast on the Artist in Residency Program that is taking place now at Snyder Elementary School.  This artist, Hua Hua Zhang, has the children create three dimensional masks and create a "play" using these masks.  The most interesting thing is that they will do all of this using a light and a screen.  The audience actually will watch the children's reflections on the opposite side of the screen.  They will incorporate background scenery using overhead projector transparencies, leaves, twigs, colored water, you name it..... Pretty Cool!!!!!!

PowerPoint/Excel/Inspiration

I feel that using a power point presentation to have students acquire information that may be difficult is an excellent idea.  Math facts, especially fractions, are more applied in nature, but I feel that the repetition, the gathering of information, and the actual participation would help the students to learn the steps involved.  The four different operations of fractions, being addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division can be incorporated into a power point.  Multiple choice questions can be asked about a particular operation and depending on the students' answer, will take them to a new screen.  If they answer the question correctly, they move on to a new set of questions on a different operation.  If the answer is incorrect, they go back to review questions pertaining to that particular operation that they are having difficulty with.  The action buttons, pictures, sounds, and repetition would be helpful to learn this information, even if by memorization.

Inspiration can be used to brainstorm the different steps involved in the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions.  The information can be made into graphs and charts for the students to use as a reference.

Virtual Technology

I love to use united streaming in my classroom.  I have a virtual whitboard so I can project everything to a big screen.  Works great for those annoying concepts like subjects and predicates, conjuctions, and creative writing.  We also enjoy using it for fun stuff like Christmas stories, learning about the Great Wall of China, observing the animal life in the oceans, and the history of the Olympics.  This is an incredible site for finding hundreds of example videos that range in lenght and content.   You can watch the entire video clip or simply pick the segment that you want to watch.  These videos are aligned with the state standards and come with teacher resources and lesson plans.

Some other virtual websites that work great for taking field trips, looking in museums, or learning about the Grand Canyon and other exciting places are:

Lesson Plans

1.  Digital Cameras: The use of digital cameras in the classroom are the best ways to capture those rare moments.  Children love to see themselves in pictures or to see their work displayed.

2. Podcasts:  Podcasts can be used in the classroom as learning tools.  The use of the podcast for repitition of unknown material is a great way to get the children to learn new concepts.

3.  Mad Libs:  I love to use mad libs in my classroom.  They are a great and fun way to help the children learn parts of speech.

4.  Power Point:  Like the podcasts, a non-linear power point presentation can be used for learning new concepts.  The repitition of a power point is great for learning subject areas that may be difficult.  Or, power point presentations can be made to show a field trip or a great art project in the making.  They can also be displayed for Open House or Parent-Teacher Conferences.

                         Thanksgiving Power Point

5.  Web Quest:  A Web Quest can be made for many reasons.  They may be used for individual or group learning.  A Web Quest can be made to learn new concepts or to provide more information on a topic already discussed.

Presentations

You will be required to do 2 individual presentations.

  1. Virtual Technology- present to the class one of the websites that you found concerning virtual technology.  Give a brief description of what you have found out about the website, how it will be useful in one of your classes, and let us explore it.
  2. Final Presentation- present to the class one of the assignments you created in either PowerPoint, Excel, or Inspiration.  Give a brief description of the content area it covers, how you will utilize it, and let us try it.

Bonnie,
Your presentation on united streaming was short but sweet. But, since I teach next to you, I know that you actually implement that technology into your curriculum every day.
You are a TECHIE!!!!
