EDTECH 448 Summer 08 Canton

Course Description
This course introduces students to systematic instructional methods and models for using the Internet effectively in their classrooms. The Internet offers you, as a teacher, professor or trainer, many resources to help you plan, develop and teach lessons. Combined with a systematic instructional design model, you can create lessons that are current, highly motivating, and mentally engaging. You will create web-enhanced lessons and web-based learning objects. The course follows four roles a teacher or training assumes: Internet miner, Internet policy advisor, integrator of existing, and producer of Internet resources. It is important that you put the content in the context of the tasks you already perform. In this way, you are provided you with relevant exercises that you can use immediately in your classroom. While in the class, you will learn many facets of using the Internet. Remember the main focus of the course is examining and reflecting on its pedagogical usefulness to you in the classroom.

Group Project and Final Project:

Group Project:

Each group should spend adequate time to research an emerging Internet-related topic and prepare a presentation for the class.  Presentations will be done on Thursday.  Each group should be prepared to present for 15-20 minutes.  Presentations can include background information regarding your topic, a demonstration (if applicable), ideas on how to incorporate this topic into the classroom, dangers of the topic, or anything related to it.  Potential ideas include, but are not limited to:
  • Facebook
  • MySpace
  • Podcasting
  • Google Applications
  • Digital Storytelling
  • TeacherTube

A powerpoint presentation is not required, but could be very helpful.  You should also include as many visual examples of your topic

  • Formatted text (style, size, color)
  • At least 1 picture on each page
  • At least 1 link on each page
  • At least 1 list (either ordered or unordered)
  • At least 1 file attachment
  • The content of the pages should be relevant to your job (classroom, advisor, coach, etc.)
  • Other contents are your decision.

You must have links to these pages on your wiki page from this class.  Also, write a brief description on your wiki page for each of the pages as to what you have incorporated from our discussions this week and how they are to be used in your classroom/job.  All work must be completed by 3pm on Friday afternoon.
