I am a Kindergarten teacher at Lynch-Bustin Elementary.  I work in a wonderful building with a great group of teachers. We laugh all the time and we are always ready for some Kindergarten fun!!

I am married and my husband Gene and I each have 3 children . Two of those six grown children are married now and we have one wonderful granddaughter with one on the way!  Her name is Madeline and we enjoy her.

We live in the country on top of a hill. My husband raises beef cows. I enjoy collecting antiques, going to auctions, reading, and shopping. I am taking this course to help keep me up with the technology that I need to continue to be productive in my Kindergarten world.

Lesson Plans

Inspiration Lesson Plan:

This lesson involves integrating letters and sounds. The Inspiration program provides a visual way to help students learn to recognize and hear the letters and sounds we've had.  Students build graphic organizers by combining pictures, letters, and spoken words to hear the sounds in the initial position of words. Following the introduction of letters and sounds, the students will choose the correct picture beginning with the sounds that have been covered. The students should choose the correct pictures for the sounds that match them and they will be displayed on their computer for assessment.

Digital Photography Lesson Plan:

I use digital photography in my classroom. Throughout the year we work on thematic units and holidays and make several classroom books. I use the digital camera to take pictures of each child and using new words and basic sentences we create books. For example, on Halloween I will take a picture of each student and we will make a book full of Kindergarten costumes with the sentence "Boo! I see a _____" .

Virtual Tour Lesson Plan:

Some of the websites that I like for Virtual tours are

www.africa360.com

www.unitedstreaming.com

www.carteretcountyschools.org

www.educationworld.com

www.k8technologyprojects.com

www.starfall.com

www.itchysalphabet.com

One virtual tour website that I sounds useful in Kindergarten is the carter county schools website listed above. One lesson involves making an alphabet book using paint shop.  I would vary the lesson a little and have the kids make a color book using the same paint program. Students will integrate technology, language arts, and art to create the class book. They locate the letters on a keyboard, type a sentence , and paint an illustration to go with their sentence. (I see a red dog.) Each student will print their picture and sentence, bind and read together their class book called "Our Kindergarten Book of Colors". This can be used for several class books.

Powerpoint and Podcast Lesson Plan:

Our group of five teachers decided to make a powerpoint presentation using "Mr Nat..." rhyming lesson. This is a song that the children learn in Kindergarten and First Grade. The songs are used to introduce word families by singing that helps reinforce the rhyme chunks. The song we chose teaches the "at" word family. We recorded Mrs. Gabriel's class singing the song that goes with the powerpoint. This podcast could be used by families at home to reinforce the word family taught at school. Introduction

WELCOME TO THE WORD FAMILY

What is a word family?

New ways to build your vocabulary!

How many words can you find in the same word family?

The Task

It is your job to make new words and see words of the same word family!

http://www.starfall.com/n/level-a/learn-to-read/play.htm?f

The Process

  1. You will choose a word family.
  2. Pick letters to make words that match the pictures.
  3. Drag the letter to the space to make a word.
  4. At the end, you will read the words that you have made.
  5. Click the green arrow to choose another word family.

Evaluation

Show your teacher what you have learned by making a flip book with one of the word families that you learned. Read the words to a partner and then to your teacher.

Conclusion

There are many word families that you have worked with today.

Were you able to match the words with the pictures?

Did you learn a lot?

Would you visit this website again?
