Jaime Sutryk
I am a sixth grade teacher at Snyder Elementary School in Sayre Pennsylvania. I teach Science and Geography. I am taking this course to advance my technical ability. I would consider myself as low-average when it comes to technology. I am here to make sure my students are actively engaged in gaining new knowledge through the use of computers.
Lesson Plans
1.Some virtual tours websites I have found to be very interesting:
www.jdenuno.com/VirtualTours.htm
www.sciencemonster.com/
www.picadome.fcps.net/lab/vtours/science.htm
2.Another virtual tours website I will use is www.froguts.com. I'll use this the first week of school to get the students interested in science. In sixth grade we are not doing any dissecting but this is a way to do it quick and easy.
-Once the students log on to the website a demo is available. Click on Demo and choose the frog.
-The website will walk you through everything you need to do to see the parts of a frog.
-I will always give the students the option of stopping at any time as it does get a bit graphic.
3. Inspiration- I would love the opportunity to use Inspiration in my classroom. We do not have the program but I will look in to getting this. We are departmentalized in our sixth grade and I feel this would be an ideal situation to use Inspiration. I would do the reasearch on a topic such as Animal Adaptations and create the "web." I would then have the Language Arts teacher take over from there. She would create the research paper and together we would have the students share theirs with the class.
4. I do not have a class website but would love to create one. I think with the use of Wiki I would be able to do so. This would allow the students the ability to share some of their class work easier. A lot of times the students fail to bring the completed projects home to share but by using their own website, the students may feel more proud to show it off.
5. Podcast:
6. Powerpoint: I could think of many ways to use Powerpoint as a means to present. Powerpoint is an interesting and useful tool to achieve the goal of education. I feel I still need work on creating useful powerpoint.
7. Webquest: A webquest I found that is real neat is http://wneo.org/WebQuests/TeacherWebQuests/weatherclear/weather.htm

Your web site on dissection rocks!
I'll have to share it with my own kids.
For those who have an issue with real dissection, it's a nice alternative.

Now you'll be able to dissect a frog on your new projector screen in front of the class.
