Introduction
Cool! You and your investigative research partner have been hired by Awesome People Magazine to research the gods and goddesses who reside on Mount Olympus. Upon completing your research, your team must decide who deserves the magazine's coveted title of "Greatest Greek God/Goddess" and who deserves the humiliating honor of being named "Olympian Loser." It is up to you and your partner to provide the readers of Awesome People Magazine with up to date news and information on what these immortals are doing on the most famed mountain of all time! Good luck with your decisions!
The Task
You and your partner will be given three tasks to complete. Your first task will be to complete the research portion of this project. After the research portion, you and your partner will discuss and decide who deserves the coveted title and who deserves the humiliating title. At this time you will be sure to have three solid reasons to support your decisions. For your final task, you and your partner will each be responsible for writing an article for the magazine.
The Process
Task #1:
Your first task begins with the research portion. You and your partner will use the recording handout packet you were given in class. On this handout, you will record the necessary information for ten Greek gods/goddesses of your choice. Begin your research at www.mythweb.com. All information must be detailed and legible. You may move to Task #2 only after you have completed your first task and have been given permission to move to the second task. You will be given two class periods to complete Task #1.
Task #2:
For your second task, you will collaborate with your partner to make the all important decision: Who deserves to be granted the title of "Greatest Greek God/Goddess" and who deserves the embarassing title of "Olympian Loser." Once you have a winner and loser, you will need to fill in the rest of your handout packet with the necessary information (including three supporting statements for your choices). You will be given approximately 20 minutes to complete Task #2.
Task#3:
For your third and final task, you and your partner will decide who will be writing which article. Once that decision has been made, you're on your own! You will follow the model about Aphrodite that we read in class. Good luck! Remember that your final product should be your very best work.

ANSWERS:
1. The text entered in the search box for each search engine was Charles Dickens.
2. The number of results returned from Google was 3,670,000. Yahoo returned 14,300,000 results. Ask returned 1,399,000 results.
3. The first ten results from Google appeared to be very useful. The first ten results from Yahoo were also useful. Yahoo returned most of the same pages as Google. The first ten results from Ask were also very useful. Again, Ask provided nearly the same pages as the other two search engines.
4.
5. I refined my search by using the "without the words." I typed in without the word "speeches."
6. For the advanced search, Google returned 8,460,000 results. For the advanced search, Yahoo returned 13,600,000 results. For the advanced search, Ask returned 12,830,000 results.
7. The like Google's homepage best when I am in a hurry and simply want to search for something. I like Yahoo's homepage if I have a little bit more time and want to check out news stories, etc. Yahoo's webpage can easily side track me though. I find Ask to be very similiar to Google. Ask is so-so.
8. I like Google's results page the best because it is clean and neat. I find Yahoo and Ask's results pages to be too messy and distracting. I do not like the the sponsored information on the side.
9. I like Google the best for searching. I like Yahoo the best if I want to read the homepage and play around a little.
