HELLO!!!!   I teach 7th grade Reading at Towanda Jr/Sr. High School.   I've had a great summer camping with my husband, Dave in our 5th wheel.  We took a trip to Nova Scotia for a few weeks this summer for our 20th wedding anniversary.  We enjoyed fishing, meeting people, sunsets, and digging for clams.  Now we are looking forward to skiing, downhill and cross country.  We love to sail and we are planning to sail across Lake Ontario next summer for a week.  I'm taking this course because I want to learn how to better use technology in my classroom.

5 LESSON PLANS

POD CASTING:  I have never been involved in pod casting.  This class has given me an opportunity to expore the use of this technology.  I have been using computers for years, but pod casting is a new realm for me.  I would use pod casting to reinforce the main parts of a fictional novel (point of view, theme, style, character, setting, and plot).  I don't feel comfortable at the present time teaching this to my students.  Collaboration with our technology department may make it possible for pod casting to be introduced to the students and followed up with a pod cast assignment in my Reading class.   The pod cast our group did for this class was on the Water Cycle.  We would use our pod cast to introduce the water cycle, followed up by our power point presentation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WSuZbl9Zqs

ONLINE COLLABORATION TOOLS: WIKI is a great tool for me to design a website for sharing a wealth of information with my students, other colleagues, and even other classrooms across the country.  This is a wonderful free tool for educators to create and share powerpoint presentations that can be topic specific.  For example, I created a powerpoint presentation in which my students can be introduced to the parts of a fictional novel.

AUTHENTIC LEARNING/VIRTUAL TOUR

The site is called:  REAL: Relevant Engaging Authentic Learning

http://eduscapes.com/sessions/experience/readwrite1.htm

http://www.visitwilliamsburg.com/index.aspx

VIRTUAL TECHNOLOGIES AND TOOLS:

www.nationalgeographic.com     I would use this to have the students label the all 50 states using the game provided at this site.

www.unitedstreaming.com    I would use this to enhance any lesson plan I choose.

www.educationworld.com    I would use this for guided reading activities along with novels read in class.

SEMANTIC NETWORK:  Kidspiration and Inspiration are super tools to use with Language Arts.  I particularly like Inspiration for the 7th grade level.  Kids love to be at the computer - they really don't like paper and pencil.  This tool gives students the advantage of using technology to prewrite and organize their ideas easily.  They can prewrite, outline, and interface.  I would use this progam to give students another way to prewrite.

DIGITAL CAMERA:  I would use my "real life" pictures and download them for use in powerpoint presentations to enhance lesson plans.  Pictures taken in class of students' projects could be posted on my website as a collage of classroom activities.  These pictures could also be part of an online classroom newsletter.

This webquest is to be used after the students read My Brother Sam is Dead
