Hi! My name is Lisa Simons. I teach Kindergarten at Audrielle Lynch Elementary school in the Athens Area School District. This is my 7th year of teaching Kindergarten and I absolutely love it. I work with a great group of friends that make each day a fun and rewarding experience!!! I enjoy boating, reading, and spending time with friends and family. I have a one year old Golden Retriever puppy named Nittany ( even after the loss to Michigan!)

Lesson Plans:
Inspiration Lesson Plan:
We will spend several weeks reading word family books, writing word families, sorting words into families, and playing games with word families. I will conclude this lesson with a culminating activity in the computer lab. My kindergarten students will use the Inspiration program to sort pictures into word families. Each student will complete at least two word families in which they will have to identify five pictures that belong in that family. This will be an excellent assessment tool to assess the growth and understanding my students have of word families.
Digital Photography Lesson Plan:
I begin taking pictures the very first day of Kindergarten. I take pictures all year long and use them for several projects throughout the school year. We make classroom books using digital photography. For example, this year we went on a field trip to the Iron Kettle Pumpkin Farm. I took pictures of each child at the pumpkin farm. I printed each one on a seperate page and then had my students write a sentence about what they saw on our field trip. After sharing our sentence with the class, I made a classroom book from their writings. I also use the digital camera for many art projects throughout the year. At the end of the year we have a program for parents. The children sing for the parents and then we go to our classrooms for cake and watch a DVD about our school year. I conclude our school year by sending home a scrapbook of pictures and a cd of pictures, from the entire year, for each child to have as memories of Kindergarten.
Wiki In The Classroom Lesson Plan:
I will use my Wiki page, as well as colleagues Wiki pages, for planning and collaborating with other Kindergarten teachers. This is an excellent source to post theme ideas and web sites to enhance our thematic units. The use of a Wiki page will allow all of our Kindergarten teachers to collaborate and have unity in our teaching. Instead of reinventing the wheel Wiki pages allow us an abundance of information and activities to choose from to make our lessons more creative and rewarding to our students.
Power Point and Podcasting Lesson Plan:
Our Kindergarten and First grade teachers worked together to create a podcast and power point lesson for the -at word family that we introduce. We use Mr. Nat as our character to introduce the -at word family. We have a poster and a song about Mr. Nat that the students read and sing. We conclude the lesson with a rhyming game, in which the students have to read rhyming word to help the rat find his way to the cheese. We also brainstorm -at words and write them on an -at house which the students use when they are doing Kid Writing. Our podcast presentation is the Mr. Nat song being sung by our students while they can read along with the song. This will allow parents to play our power point presentation at home and reinforce what we are working on in Kindergarten.
Virtual Tour Lesson Plan:
The following are web sites that I use for virtual tour lesson plans:
After introducing our letters and working on letter identification and sound recognition, I have my students go to starfall.com. This is an excellent site to reinforce letter recognition and sounds. This site shows the students many pictures that each letter begins with. It also has a lot of activities and games that reinforce letters and sounds. I also use unitedstreaming.com to conclude my lessons. This site has educational videos on many topics and themes that we discuss in Kindergarten. Unitedstreaming also has teacher activities to enhance any lesson. We will be using the dinosaur virtual tour to prepare for our family fun night at our school. Family fun night is an evening that parents and students can spend quality time together learning about a topic which this month is dinosaurs. We will also watch a virtual tour on united streaming to prepare our students for family fun night.
