Lunch at Jamie Lou’s.ppt
5 Lesson Plans
1. After introducing, defining, and demonstrating a podcast, students will be asked to find a podcast on each of two topics chosen from a general list of math topics. This list of topics could include whole numbers, fractions, integers, problem solving strategies and any appropriate topics related to the curriculum.
2. Using on-line collaborative tools like wiki, think-free, Google Docs and Spreadsheets, I will define the concept of ratio. Students will collect height and circumference data from five different cylindrical containers. Using a spreadsheet, students will compare and present data related to the ratios.
3. Using a semantic map I will demonstrate the process of adding fractions with unlike denominators to show how a flow-chart can help students remember the order of actions necessary to solve the problem. Two students will then work at the board demonstrating the use of a flow-chart to solve multiplication problems containing fractions and mixed numbers. Using a semantic mapping program students will present the process of computing with fractions and mixed numbers.
4. I will introduce and demonstrate several virtual technologies. Using virtual tours of famous or historical sites, students will identify five geometric shapes found in the architecture of these structures.
5. After introducing, defining, and demonstrating expert systems, students will create a PowerPoint presentation. Using a digital camera students will take pictures of objects for the purpose of identifying the number of symmetries.
