This is my Wiki page for PSU 464.

I am a Title I Reading teacher at Lynch-Bustin Elementary in the Athens Area School District.  I am beginning my 28th year in education with the first five years at Sloan Elementary in Franklin Regional School District,  Murrysville, PA. I have been with Athens since 1985.  In addition to being  a reading teacher, I am a coordinator for Staff Development and enjoy my role as a teacher of teachers.

This summer I spent my BIG 50 birthday at the MALL OF AMERICA in Minnesota. It took us three days, but we managed to see it all!

Tom and I have been married 29 years and have two children, Lindsay -20 and Nate - 17.  Lindsay is a junior at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA.  A marketing and accounting major, she plans to make Pittsburgh her home.

Nate - AKA Goose is a junior at Athens HS.  He is a varsity soccer player and works at McDonald's for gasoline money.

Introduction

WELCOME TO THE WORD

What is a word family?

New ways to build your vocabulary!

How many words can you find in the same word family?

The Task

It is your job to make new words and see words of the same word family!

Go to http://www.starfall.com/n/level-a/learn-to-read/play.htm?f

The Process

You will:

  1. Chose a word family
  2. Pick letters to make words that match the pictures.
  3. Drag the letter to the space to make the word.
  4. At the end, you will read the words that you have made.
  5. Click the green arrow to choose another word family.

Evaluation

Show your teacher what you've learned by making a flip book with one of the word families that you learned.  Read the words to a partner and then your teacher.

Conclusion

There are many word families that you worked with today;

Were you able to match the words with the pictures?

Did you learn a lot?

Would you visit this website again?

Hey - way cool link on the SAT prep download. Remind me of it when Maryn's a junior. Of course, by then, you'll be guiding me through a whole maze of much newer technology!

Hmmm...that SAT prep iPod download sounds interesting. I wonder how many kids would actually use their iPods to study. I also think it presents a novel way to cheat on the SAT...stick some earbuds in and wear your hairt down...hmmmm.
