Lesson Plans

1. DIGITAL CAMERA:  Using the digital camera, I took picture of my animals.  This is a great way to create a unique PowerPoint.  This was my example of the virtual tour of my pet family.  I will use this the first week of school as part of my 'getting to know you'.  I could have the students use the digital cameras to take pictures of geometric figures in their community.  Then they could work in groups to name the figures and define the area formulas for each figure.

2.  INSPIRATION:  I developed a starting point for a new project to go along with a chapter review.  I created a diagram and notes page in Inspiration to use as a rubric for my students to create a Math Magazine.  This will help students who are visual and who like main points listed.  It would be given out at the beginning of a chapter so they had at least 2-3 weeks to complete this.  Inspiration could be used in creating some of the pages in the magazines.  Inspiration would also be a great way for students to review the chapter in an organized way.

3.  TURNING POINT:  This is actually something that was fortunate to have presented in the classroom.  Our librarian is a very helpful person who will incorporate activities for use in the library.  I mentioned wanting to do a webquest type of project to her.  She created a PowerPoint using TurningPoint.  The students loved it.  They also learned about mathematicians.  It was a great experience for me to learn from and it was a great activities for the students to do.  I would like to use this more in the furture!

 4.  local.live.com:  This is an amazing site!  It would be easy to have students pick two cities and make comparisons about the clarity of the birdseye views, if available.  Students could then have to locate information about each city.  Then they would be paired with a partner and would be asked to make their choice of graphs to compare data.  This could be a great cross-curricular project for countries with social studies.   Students could then use Excel to create charts and show the data on charts in excel.

5.  PODCAST:  On www.teachertube.com, there are some good podcasts that could be used to spark interest at the beginning of class to introduce a topic.  There are also some brainteaser questions.  This would be a good way to have the students work through a logic question.  I could also have the students create their own podcasts as a review for a chapter test.  This could also be a way to incorporate student created technology in the class.
