-it's easy to make your own

-Scientific American 60-second podcast: could be used as an anticipatory set

-This Week in Science podcast: could be used by students to create presentation on current science topic

-CalOceans "Thank you Oceans" podcast: could be used as an introduction to Marine Life Protection Act

Assignment #5: On-Line Video

1.  Scientific Method Song

This video is a song about the scientific method.  It could be used as an introduction or review of the scientific method.  It is fairly annoying, and I think it would drive me somewhat crazy if I showed it to all of my classes, but 9th graders might enjoy it.

2.  National Geographic Videos

This site offers a wide variety of videos related to biology and the environment.  It could be used in a number of ways.  Many are relatively short- a few minutes- that could be used as an anticipatory set.

3.  Deer Management

This video describes how deer populations are studied and managed.  In this case, it is suspected that coyotes are limiting the population.  I think it would be a good video to show my general science class, as we are currently studying environmental issues.  It is something that a lot of our students could relate to and form opinions about.

I have a projector in my room, which makes it very easy to show videos.  Prior to last year I needed to reserve one from the office everytime I needed it.  It could be a pain to find it and also set it up.  As I am not very computer savvy, sometimes I needed to ask fellow teachers for help (perhaps you remember when I bugged you and it turned out that the power wasn't on!!).
