Session6 Internet Safety

<<Back Session 1 Session 2 Session 3 Session 4 Session 5

I will be brief and give you exactly what you need.  Remember, you have until December 9 to post your assignments.

Session 6: Social Risks of internet use and How Internet predators function.

Using the lists of social networking and internet communications combined with the readings from our book and the articles posted in previous sessions,  summarize the risks involved for children using the internet.  Place this summary on your personal wiki page.  Here is what I'm looking for, a few paragraphs that summarize the risks involved for students using internet resources.  Please focus your discussion on the age groups that you teach, but you may touch on the risks involved for students in other age ranges.  What this discussion document does for us is helps us wrap the ideas that we have covered so far about Cyberstalking, social networking and internet communication into a few paragraphs of thought and reflection.  Include some strategies for helping students and parents stay protected while using the internet.

Session 7: Cyber Bullying

Here we are changing our focus from protecting students from the dangers of the internet to helping our students not become one of the dangers! Please read the following articles and videos and be prepared to talk about them in class next week.

Media Awareness Network's take on Cyber Bullying

PEW Research on CyberBullying (8 Pages)

Thought provoking video, great to show students...especially Jr./Sr. High schoolers:

Session 8: Legal Problems of Internet Use

Come to class prepared to discuss legal problems surrounding Internet predators.  For example, how prosecution works when the predator is not in the same state or country.  What recent changes and advances help catch a cyber criminal?

So, for your discussion document on this topic, simply wait until class next week to summarize what we discuss in class on this topic.

Thanks again for your patience!!  I look forward to seeing you all next week.

~Clinton
