• Assignment: 2.  Critique district Acceptable Use Policy .
  Sayre Area School District has an Acceptable Use Policy for both the elementary and the high school.  My contact with computers / students using computers comes solely from the high school so this is the Acceptable Use Policy I will refer to in my critique.
  The high school policy is very comprehensive.  It addresses everything from how to log on to the importance of logging off.  To have computer access, the student's have to sign that they are in agreement and will abide by the policy - no exceptions.  What is really interesting about Sayre High Schools policy is the PARENTS are required to read and agree to the rules of the policy.  If their child goes on a site that is "forbidden" the school is not deemed responsible.  The policy leaves no stone left unturned.  As a matter of fact, we had a student go against policy approximately a month ago.  He sent very "dark", inappropriate emails to the student body grades seven through twelve.  Presently., he hasn't returned to school.  I think our Acceptable Use Policy is clear and concise - just as it should be.

• Assignment: 3. Develop a personal course of study for professional growth:
   
  My personal course of study for professional growth involves several short term goals and one very large long term goal.  My short term goals include completing another computer based class this summer, and adding more computer- based activities to my health curriculum - specifically seventh and eighth grade health.  I love teaching health and can't help but notice what wonderful information is on line.  My students would love to have a computer based learning portion added to their health requirements.  I plan on figuring out how exactly thow to create a great blog and delicious page and  my goal is to implement them next year.
  My long term goal is to eventually switch from being primarily a health teacher  (grades 4-8) to becoming a phys.ed teacher.  We have a phys.ed teacher who will be retiring within five years so I need to pass my swimming certification (gulp) before this time.
