- Yes! you can download Nvu by visiting this link NVU It doesn't have all the 'bells and whistles' of an app you would pay for, but hey, it's free!!!
- How do I get started? -Linda
- Well, that is a loaded question!! First thing you need is web space...a place on the internet where you can save files that can be viewed through a web browser. I've used several web hosts, but the one I use right now is the market leader in this area...www.1and1.com they have reasonable prices, good service, and good terms. Your school has a web space as well. Depending on the school, you have many ways to connect to it and you will need to talk to your tech coordinator, or the webmaster of your site (usually the one and the same). Also, your internet service provider has a limited amount of web space available for you... for example, CQ Services gives you 10 mb of space so does RoadRunner. And, just to stay in keeping with my personality...the absolute best/easiest way is to get a Mac, use iWeb and upload it to your .Mac account....Oh so easy, actually fun, and looks great!! If you want some example, let me know and I'll e-mail you a link or two to give a few examples. There are some free web hosts out there as well, go here to check them out. Then there is the hard way, install a web server on your own computer, set up a dynamic DNS routing service, open up your firewall, by now you stopped reading and refuse to go any further...seriously, I don't recommend hosting your own web site...it is a pain!
- Woah! That is just the hosting portion...that is getting web space...a place to keep your stuff... Next you need a way to get people to your site. Way one, no matter where it is hosted, you can get there by typing in a series of numbers and a long url and people can get there... For example, your stuff is on your Road Runner sapce...you will have an address that will more than likely include stny.rr.com among other slashes, not an easy .com or .us or something... Which brings us to way number two...sign up for a domain name... You can go do Godaddy.com or Dynonames.com (personally, i use dynonames) or do a web search for Domain names, Network solutions is another good one. Sign up for a domain name and have it point to your web host or long url.
- Clint- I downloaded NVU to work on my web page b/c it was FREE. I've been playing with it and saving the pages, but still don't know how to link the pages. I'll save what I have and bring it with me hoping my questions will get answered! ~Deb
