Hi, my name is Janet Hughes . I teach Kindergarten at Lynch Bustin in Athens. I am part of a great kindergarten team which makes my job alot of fun!!! I have three children . Two daughters that are grown-up and a son that is in the process of growing up!!!! My husband and I just celebrated our 30th anniversary in Jamacia. In my free time I like to walk, work-out, and EAT!!! I'm trying to stay away from that last one.
Following the introduction of all the letters and their sounds I would check for understanding by giving each child a couple of pictures for the various sounds we have covered. I would then use the inspiration program to show the letters that we are working on and the child that has a picture for that sound would hold up a picture to go with it. I would then type in the name of that picture.
Digital Photography Lesson Plan:
I use digital photography in my class all year round. I use it when making class books. For example we used it for introducing the word wall word "and" I took their pictures with two students on a page with the word and between the two students. They love to read these books and it does help them to learn their sight words. We also use it to make holiday books. For example, on Halloween I will take a picture of each student in their costume and we will make a book with the sentence "Boo! I see a ____".
Virtual Technology Lesson Plan:
Using Paint Shop I would have my Kindergarten paint a picture and then type a sentence about it using our Kid Writing skills. We would then each share our stories and illustrations. After everyone has shared we would put them together in a class book!! I also use the United Streaming Website to reinforce themes that we are working on. It has videos that go along with these skills. Other websites we use are Education World .com and National Geographic .com . We also studied dinosaurs taking a virtual tour through United Streaming. The students got to pick their favorite dinosaur , color it and then write a sentence about it. We then had a family fun night to reinforce everything we learned about dinosaurs.
Power Point and Podcasting Lesson Plan:
Our group of teachers decided to make a powerpoint presentation using "Mr. Nat". This is a song that the children learn in Kindergarten and First grade. This song teaches the "at" word family. We recorded Mrs. Gabriel's first grade singing the song that goes with the powerpoint. This Podcast could be used at home to reinforce the "at" word family taught at school. Check out this link:
